History of Rebalance –
Rebalance LLC is a small business based in Wenatchee, Washington, formed in 2011 by Emily Orling and David Elwood. David is an engineer by training and Emily is a botanist and fire ecologist. They met at Oregon State University in 2007 while David was completing his graduate research in direct-drive wave energy conversion technologies and Emily was managing a research lab studying aphid-plant interactions. Their love of science and a desire to create a more sustainable society is the core philosophy of Rebalance LLC.
Rebalance Energy, established in 2019 and, led by CTO David Elwood, focuses on the development of renewable energy and energy storage technologies and projects in Western North America. Rebalance Environmental Consulting led by CEO Emily Orling, was formed in 2013 to provide environmental science consulting services to government agencies and non-profit organizations and went dormant in 2019 when Emily went to work for the US Bureau of Reclamation.

Rebalance Environmental is a woman-owned small business based in Wenatchee, Washington. Formed in 2013 by CEO and Lead Botanist Emily Orling, the company provides environmental science consulting services to federal agencies, non-profit organizations, and consulting firms. While much of our expertise is in conducting botanical surveys and monitoring for special status and/or invasive vascular plants, we also assist our clients with data management, analysis, report writing, and project management. Rebalance’s botanical team has field experience across the western US, but our focus is local – specializing in projects concerning the flora of eastern Washington and Oregon. In recognition of our extensive knowledge of the Pacific Northwest flora, Rebalance was recently awarded a blanket purchase agreement for vascular botanical surveys in Region 6 (Oregon and Washington) of the US Forest Service (USFS) and Bureau of Land Management (BLM).
