Student Citizen Science Fire Recovery Monitoring Protocol, 2016 – Emily Orling developed a written post-wildfire plant density monitoring protocol customized for 5th- through 12th- grade student citizen scientists. This monitoring exercise is aimed to instruct students to collect scientifically sound field ecology data in the Wenatchee foothills, and add to local STEM education possibilities. Through this monitoring exercise, students learn to identify common plants of their local sagebrush-steppe ecosystem, gain a better understanding of the scientific method, and develop a love for the outdoors. Protocol development was preformed by Emily for a local Educational Service District and Rebalance client, in conjunction with a local land trust conservation organization.
